Is this the one? or should we look for another

Luke 7:20 ESV

“And when the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?’”

Luke 7:22-23 ESV

“And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. 23 And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”

Today there are thousands of churches to choose from, and most of them are trying really hard to serve God the best they know how. It’s common to choose a church because it fits a popular style or demographic. Or maybe it’s relevant, lively, and has a good children program.  However I believe most of that criteria isn’t important.  Today when looking for a church I think its best to ask yourself “Is this the one or should I look for another”?  But how would you know?

What do you see when you are there?  Does it resemble what Jesus told Johns disciples?  If you had to describe what you saw in church, would it match up with Jesus account?  Most likely not.  Jesus didn’t say, ‘Go tell John what you have seen, the music is lively, the preacher is funny, the people are young and cool, they served great coffee and it really fit my needs.’  No, His account was ‘the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them’.  This is how you know you have landed in a good place, because what you are seeing in matched up with Jesus’ account.

A church that God attends

This is what we should be seeing in churches everywhere. This is evidence that the Kingdom of God is there and that we should be there too.  I want to be in a church because God is there and His kingdom is alive, working and evident.  Everything else is just useless or secondary.  We shouldn’t choose a church because it fits us but we should choose a church because it fits God.  Sadly, most churches aren’t exhibiting the Kingdom of God but the best efforts of man.

Is this the one or should I look for another tell John what you saw Luke 7:20 ESV

If all you’re looking for is a decent community that fits your needs and caters to you then your in luck, there are plenty of churches that fit that bill.  But you might looking for place where the kingdom is evident, where people are saved, rescued, healed and delivered.  A place where your life can truly change forever, where you can truly become, and be all that God has intended for you, and your family. Maybe it’s time to start looking for that kind of church.

What do you see in church? Do the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, are the sick healed, do the deaf hear, are the dead are raised up, do the poor have good news preached to them? And are people not offended by Jesus? Based on what you see, Is it the one, or should you look for another?

God deserves to be SEEN

It’s a popular phrase today, “I deserve”.  People all over saying “well I deserve this or I deserve that”.  We all feel like there is something we all deserve, that we are entitled to.  Whether it’s to be treated a certain way, or to have a good life, maybe we deserve a raise, or just

My spiritual mood is WAR!

Right now the atmosphere seems alive with fighting. But is it the right fight? Today there is conflict between each other, families, the world and corporations. Just venture onto social media and in seconds you can find multiple struggles to participate in. We are fighting anything and everything; there are no shortages of fights nowadays.
